Résumé de Vicious

"Vicious," authored by V. E. Schwab, is a dark fantasy novel that explores the complexities of obsession, ambition, and the thin line between heroism and villainy. Set in a contemporary world where extraordinary abilities can be gained through near-death experiences, the story follows Victor Vale and Eli Ever, two brilliant college friends whose experiment into creating supernatural powers goes horribly wrong. Their shared past is marred by betrayal, leading to a fierce rivalry that serves as the novel's central conflict. The narrative is structured in a non-linear fashion, alternating between past and present, which gradually reveals the depth of Victor and Eli's relationship and the moral ambiguities that surround their powers. The concepts of "ExtraOrdinary" individuals—those who possess superhuman abilities—are introduced, emphasizing that these powers come with significant ethical implications. As Victor seeks revenge against Eli, the reader is drawn into a complex exploration of power, ambition, and the consequences of playing god. Schwab intricately weaves into the narrative themes of mortality, friendship, and the human capacity for both good and evil. The dark tone is complemented by a richly developed urban setting and a cast of supporting characters, including the enigmatic Sydney, who is drawn into the conflict and must navigate her own understanding of power. Through Victor's quest for vengeance against Eli, "Vicious" raises profound questions about identity, morality, and what it means to be truly extraordinary, ultimately crafting a captivating tale that blurs the lines between hero and villain.
