Résumé de The Guest List

Lucy Foley’s novel The Guest List is a contemporary murder mystery set on a remote, windswept island off the coast of Ireland. The story revolves around the lavish wedding of Jules Keegan, a charismatic and ambitious magazine publisher, and Will Slater, a charming television survival show star. Their celebrity-style nuptials bring a small group of guests to the isolated, bitterly atmospheric location, a place with a dark history and unreliable electricity. The narrative unfolds through multiple first-person perspectives, primarily the bride, the plus-one, the best man, the wedding planner, and the bridesmaid. This rotating point of view creates a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere where each character holds secrets and private resentments. As the celebration gets underway, old grudges and hidden connections surface, and a body is discovered. The novel’s structure alternates between the present-day timeline of the wedding weekend and flash-forwards to the aftermath, when a murder investigation begins. Foley uses the harsh, rugged landscape—a former estate with a bog and a graveyard—as a vivid backdrop that amplifies the growing sense of dread. The plot explores themes of class, ambition, and the destructive power of long-buried truths. It is a character-driven whodunit that focuses on the complex web of relationships and motives among the wedding party. The Guest List became a bestseller for its twisty, slow-burn suspense and its ensemble cast of unreliable narrators.
