Résumé de Leviathan Wakes

James S. A. Corey's "Leviathan Wakes" plunges readers into a politically fraught 24th-century solar system, where Earth, Mars, and the resource-starved Outer Planets Alliance (OPA) maintain a tense, uneasy peace. The narrative unfolds through two primary perspectives that ultimately converge: James Holden, First Officer of the ice-hauler *Canterbury*, and Joe Miller, a jaded detective on the asteroid Ceres. Holden's world is shattered when his ship encounters an abandoned vessel, the *Scopuli*, leading to the *Canterbury*'s destruction by a stealth ship and thrusting him into an interstellar conspiracy. His decision to publicly broadcast the attack fuels inter-system paranoia and threatens to ignite a full-blown war, painting him as either a hero or a dangerous provocateur. Concurrently, Detective Miller is tasked with finding Julie Mao, a missing heiress connected to radical OPA factions. His investigation uncovers a deeper, more sinister plot involving corporate espionage and dangerous biological research that points to a grander, more terrifying scheme. As Holden and his makeshift crew — now aboard the salvaged Martian gunship *Rocinante* — navigate treacherous political waters and flee pursuit, Miller's search for Julie leads him down a dark path that reveals the true, terrifying nature of the threat behind the *Canterbury*'s demise. The book masterfully blends elements of gritty noir with expansive space opera, meticulously detailing the unique sociological and physiological adaptations of the "Belters" to their low-gravity existence, and the escalating tensions that bind humanity across the solar system. The central mystery revolves around the discovery of an enigmatic alien protomolecule, a force unlike anything humanity has ever encountered, which promises to reshape the balance of power and life itself if its purpose is unleashed. The story is a relentless propulsion toward understanding this existential threat and surviving the ensuing chaos.
