Résumé de Le Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours

"Le Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours," written by Jules Verne, is a pioneering adventure novel published in 1873 that combines elements of travel and exploration with themes of scientific progress and human determination. Set against a backdrop of 19th-century global expansion, the story follows Phileas Fogg, a meticulous and unflappable Englishman, who wagers that he can circumnavigate the globe in just eighty days. Accompanied by his impulsive French servant, Passepartout, Fogg embarks on a daring journey that takes him through a diverse array of landscapes and cultures. Each chapter of the novel unfolds a new stage of Fogg's journey, depicting the challenges and obstacles he faces, such as missed connections, transport mishaps, and unexpected encounters. Verne’s vivid descriptions of the various locations—ranging from the bustling streets of London to the exotic landscapes of India and the Far East—serve to illustrate the disparity and richness of the world during the age of colonialism. His use of time as a central theme emphasizes the precision and pace of modern life, with Fogg’s reliance on railroads and steamships showcasing the technological advancements of his time. As the narrative progresses, the tension builds around Fogg's bet, highlighting various societal norms and prejudices of the era, including attitudes towards race and gender. The characters of Fogg and Passepartout represent contrasting aspects of the human experience: Fogg embodies rationality and punctuality, while Passepartout brings spontaneity and warmth, enriching the story with their dynamic relationship. Ultimately, "Le Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours" remains a timeless exploration of adventure, the quest for knowledge, and the spirit of human ingenuity.
