Résumé de An Abundance of Katherines

"An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green follows the story of Colin Singleton, a child prodigy who has a penchant for dating girls named Katherine. At the outset, Colin has recently been dumped by his latest girlfriend, Katherine XIX, which propels him into a journey of self-discovery and exploration. The novel is structured around Colin’s adventures after embarking on a road trip with his close friend Hassan, heading to a small town in Tennessee. One of the distinctive frameworks of the book is Colin's obsession with creating a mathematical formula to predict the outcomes of his relationships, specifically how long they will last based on various inputs. This thematic exploration of love through mathematical analysis reveals Colin's struggle to find patterns and meaning in his romantic experiences. The narrative is interspersed with footnotes that provide additional context, humor, and information about mathematicians, algorithms, and the different Katherines, enhancing the depth of the story while maintaining an engaging tone. The setting in the small town provides a backdrop for the introspective journey of the characters, contrasting Colin’s highly analytical perspective with the emotional realities of his relationships. As Colin grapples with his identity and the pressure of expectations—both from himself and society—he undergoes a transformation that culminates in valuable insights about love, friendship, and self-worth. Throughout the novel, John Green expertly weaves humor with deeper themes, making "An Abundance of Katherines" a compelling exploration of adolescence, identity, and the complexity of human relationships.
