Set against a colorful backdrop of a serene, otherworldly tea house, the narrative unfolds through the interactions between Wallace and several key characters, including Hugo, the spirited ghostly inhabitants of the shop, and a host of other characters who illuminate Wallace's previously unexamined life. Each chapter unveils a new lesson for Wallace as he grapples with his past choices and learns the importance of connection, love, and vulnerability. Klune’s signature blend of humor and heart emphasizes the bittersweet nature of existence, emphasizing that every moment matters. Throughout the novel, Wallace participates in various reflective "experiments" orchestrated by Hugo to help him acknowledge the impact of his actions and the importance of finding joy.
