Jewell employs a dual-timeline structure that not only builds suspense but also deepens character development as the layers of the story unfold. The writing captures the emotive experiences of a family torn apart, revealing the long-lasting effects of loss and the complexity of human connections. As Laurel uncovers more about Ellie’s life and the people who surrounded her, readers are drawn into a web of intrigue that challenges perceptions of trust and the lengths to which a mother will go for closure.
