《The Throne of Fire》摘要

"The Throne of Fire" by Rick Riordan is the second installment in "The Kane Chronicles" series, thrusting teenage magicians Carter and Sadie Kane into an even more urgent battle to save the world from ancient Egyptian forces. Following their initial clash with the gods, the siblings have spent three months attempting to train other young magicians and navigate the strictures of the House of Life, the global organization of Egyptian magic that views their independent methods with suspicion. The narrative retains its distinctive first-person alternating chapter structure, presented as an audio recording being compiled by Carter and Sadie. This unique framing device allows readers to experience events through the contrasting personalities of the cautious, combat-oriented Carter (host of Horus) and the sarcastic, spell-slinging Sadie (host of Isis). The central quest of "The Throne of Fire" is to prevent the chaos god Apophis, the Serpent, from breaking free of his prison and plunging the world into darkness. To achieve this, the Kane siblings realize they must awaken Ra, the ancient sun god, who has been dormant and lost for millennia. Their perilous journey takes them across continents, from the United States to England and Egypt, and frequently into the treacherous, ever-shifting magical dimension known as the Duat. Along the way, they must contend with hostile gods, rival magicians from the House of Life who believe the Kanes are dangerous renegades, and a host of mythical creatures. The siblings must master their burgeoning powers, locate the elusive Book of Ra, and find the possibly senile sun god before Apophis's destructive power becomes unstoppable. Riordan intricately weaves complex Egyptian lore with modern-day settings, creating a fast-paced adventure where ancient magic clashes with contemporary challenges.
