《The sum of all kisses》摘要

"The Sum of All Kisses" by Julia Quinn is the third book in the “Smythe-Smith Quartet,” a series that delves into the lives and romance of the Smythe-Smith family, known for their disastrous musicales. Set in the early 19th century Regency England, this novel intricately weaves a story of love, family dynamics, and societal expectations. The story centers on the protagonists, Lady Sarah Pleinsworth and Hugh Prentice. Lady Sarah is characterized by her spirited demeanor and sharp wit, determined to carve her own path in a world that often sidelines women’s desires and ambitions. In juxtaposition, Hugh Prentice is a talented, yet tormented, gentleman who has recently returned from his own hardships, including a disgrace that scars his reputation. Their relationship begins with animosity; both are resistant to the potential of romance. However, circumstances compel them to confront their feelings, leading to a slow unraveling of their prejudices and past experiences. The narrative’s framework highlights themes of forgiveness and second chances while exploring the intricacies of familial ties, particularly through the lens of the quirky Smythe-Smith family. Quinn employs humor and sharp dialogue, allowing readers to engage with its characters' evolution against a backdrop of charming societal expectations and pressures. As Sarah and Hugh navigate their growing chemistry amidst misunderstandings and social obligations, readers can sense the tension and emotional depth that Quinn expertly crafts. The exploration of societal pressure alongside personal growth and romance makes "The Sum of All Kisses" a captivating addition to the genre of historical romance.
