《The Son of Neptune》摘要

Rick Riordan's "The Son of Neptune" plunges readers back into the world of demigods, significantly expanding the mythological landscape introduced in the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series and the first installment of "The Heroes of Olympus." The book opens with Percy Jackson, a familiar hero, suffering from complete amnesia save for vague recollections and the name Annabeth. Guided by the goddess Juno, Percy navigates a treacherous journey to Camp Jupiter, the highly militarized training ground for Roman demigods nestled in the San Francisco Bay Area, offering a stark contrast to the more informal Greek Camp Half-Blood. At Camp Jupiter, Percy quickly befriends Hazel Levesque, a daughter of Pluto with a mysterious past and a cursed gift for unearthing valuable, yet dangerous, jewels. He also meets Frank Zhang, a shy son of Mars whose destiny is intricately linked to a vulnerable piece of firewood and whose family lineage carries immense power and responsibility. This unlikely trio is soon tasked with a perilous quest: to travel north to the land beyond the gods, a forbidden territory in Alaska, to free Thanatos (the Roman god of Death) from imprisonment by the giant Alcyoneus. Their mission is critical not only for restoring the natural cycle of life and death but also for retrieving a stolen Roman legion standard, vital for Camp Jupiter's defense against the looming threat of the primordial goddess Gaea and her awakened giant children. The novel is structured with alternating perspectives, allowing readers deep insight into Percy's struggle to reconcile his Greek instincts with Roman discipline, Hazel's grappling with her past and the implications of her unique abilities, and Frank's journey of self-discovery amidst his family's legacy and shapeshifting powers. "The Son of Neptune" meticulously builds upon Roman mythology, introducing new deities, a rigorous legion system, and a distinct demigod culture, all while advancing the overarching Prophecy of Seven. It skillfully interweaves individual character arcs with a high-stakes adventure, preparing the stage for the ultimate confrontation between the Greek and Roman demigod worlds and the forces of Gaea.
