《The Red Pyramid》摘要

"The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan is the first book in the Kane Chronicles series and follows the adventure of siblings Carter and Sadie Kane. Set against the backdrop of modern-day America and ancient Egyptian mythology, the narrative introduces a world where gods, magicians, and pharaohs come to life. The story begins with a dramatic incident at the British Museum that leads to the awakening of the Egyptian god Set, who captures their father, Julius Kane, during a ritual intended to revive their mother. The novel unfolds through alternating first-person narratives from Carter and Sadie, capturing their unique perspectives and experiences as they attempt to navigate their newfound powers and the dangers posed by the Egyptian pantheon. Carter is a young boy raised in the museum culture, traveling with his father, while Sadie, living with their grandparents in London, has had a vastly different upbringing. This contrast highlights their individual growth as they uncover the truth about their family's magical legacy. Through their journey, the siblings must learn about the ancient magical system, the use of "kha" (the life force) and "ka" (the spiritual double), and how to harness their abilities to combat Set's malevolent plans. Alongside their initiations into this world, they meet various mythological characters and face Trials, each teaching them essential lessons about bravery, heritage, and unity. The pacing of the book resembles a thrill ride, combining elements of adventure, humor, and the trials of sibling dynamics in the face of extraordinary events. As Carter and Sadie explore their connection to the gods and their roles as magicians, they embark on a quest that will define their identities and family legacy.
