《The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet》摘要

Becky Chambers' "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" is a character-driven science fiction novel that takes readers on an interstellar journey aboard the Wayfarer, a dilapidated spaceship tasked with creating hyperspace tunnels. Set in a richly constructed universe where various alien species coexist, the story focuses on the crew, who are diverse in background and personality, reflecting themes of belonging, identity, and the complexities of interpersonal relationships. The narrative is structured around episodic chapters that explore the lives of the crew members, from the ambitious and resourceful navigator, Rosemary Harper, to the gruff but caring ship's mechanic, Kizzy Shao, and the enigmatic and socially awkward alien pilot, Ashby Santoso. Each character's backstory and struggles are fleshed out as they navigate the challenges of life on the ship, the intricacies of their interspecies dynamics, and the often precarious nature of their mission. Chambers employs the framework of found family, illustrating how untraditional bonds can form in a space where individuals from different cultures and species converge. Particularly noteworthy is the detailed portrayal of the interstellar societies, including the tensions and alliances between various species, such as the quirky Aandris and the militaristic Torin. The book delves into the emotional resonance of exploring new worlds while addressing deeper themes of acceptance and the search for purpose. Ultimately, "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" is not only a journey through space but also an exploration of what it means to be part of a crew, fostering connections, and finding one's place amid the vast cosmos. The book stands out for its warmth, humor, and thought-provoking commentary on the nature of community in a diverse universe.
