Resumen de The Langoliers

"The Langoliers" is a novella by Stephen King, included in his 1990 collection "Four Past Midnight." This gripping narrative revolves around a group of passengers aboard a red-eye flight from Los Angeles to Boston, who experience an unsettling phenomenon when they awaken to discover that most of their fellow travelers have mysteriously vanished. The remaining characters are thrust into a surreal world where time itself seems to unravel, setting the stage for a harrowing exploration of reality and existence. The story is primarily set on an empty airport tarmac and the abandoned airplane, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere that heightens the tension among the characters. Key figures include Brian Robeson, a troubled teenager with a strong survival instinct; Dinah Bellman, a clairvoyant girl; and a range of other diverse personalities, each bringing their unique backstories and anxieties into this strange circumstance. Their interactions drive the plot forward, revealing their fears and motivations as they try to understand their predicament. The narrative delves into themes of time, memory, and the nature of reality, while the Langoliers themselves—creatures that consume the past—serve as a metaphor for the inevitable passage of time and the loss of what once was. As the characters grapple with their surreal environment, they must confront not only the outer threat of the Langoliers but also their inner demons, leading to a psychological exploration characteristic of much of King’s work. This blend of supernatural horror and existential inquiry makes "The Langoliers" a compelling read within King's extensive bibliography, examining how individuals cope with an unimaginable situation and the burden of time.
