In "The Kingdom of Copper: A Novel (The Daevabad Trilogy)," Shannon A. Chakraborty continues the intricate and richly woven narrative established in the first book, "The City of Brass." Set in the fantastical world of Daevabad, a sprawling city steeped in magic and political intrigue, the story follows the lives of its inhabitants, primarily focusing on the struggles for power among the daeva, a group of magical beings with a complex history. The novel delves deep into themes of identity, loyalty, and the consequences of war, exploring how the tensions between different factions shape the characters' destinies. At the forefront are Nahri, a cunning con artist with healing abilities, and Ali, a prince caught between his family’s expectations and his own moral compass. Their journeys in "The Kingdom of Copper" are fraught with challenges as they navigate the aftermath of the political upheaval that ensued in the previous installment. As the stakes rise, Nahri and Ali must confront their personal struggles while dealing with the extremely fractured political landscape of Daevabad, which is threatened by the ambitions of rival factions and outside forces.
