Résumé de The great cosmic mother

"The Great Cosmic Mother" by Monica Sjöö is a seminal work that delves into the historical and spiritual significance of the feminine divine throughout various cultures and epochs. Sjöö's argument centers around the idea that the worship of a Great Mother or feminine deity is deeply ingrained in human civilization, and she emphasizes how this reverence has been largely overshadowed by patriarchal structures in more recent history. The book navigates through an interdisciplinary approach, drawing upon archeology, mythology, and cultural anthropology to highlight the spiritual significance of the Mother Goddess. In her exploration, Sjöö presents a framework that juxtaposes the goddess worship practices of ancient societies with contemporary spiritual crises. Each chapter examines different aspects of the feminine divine, including the imagery and symbolism associated with the Great Mother in various cultural contexts, from prehistory to modern times. Among the distinctive frameworks are the transformative power of feminine energy and the reclamation of women's spirituality as a counterpoint to patriarchal narratives. Sjöö critiques the historical suppression of the feminine principle and discusses the implications of this erasure on contemporary understandings of gender and spirituality. The book also addresses modern practices and movements that seek to reconnect with these ancient traditions. Here, she draws upon both personal and collective narratives as she embarks on a journey that champions the resurgence of feminine energy in personal identities and cultural expressions. Overall, "The Great Cosmic Mother" stands as a powerful call to rediscover and honor the feminine aspect of the divine, providing readers with a rich tapestry of evidence of the Great Mother’s enduring presence in spirituality and human consciousness.
