The Dark Prophecy 요약

Rick Riordan's "The Dark Prophecy" is the second installment in *The Trials of Apollo* series, continuing the arduous journey of the banished Olympian god Apollo in his mortal form, Lester Papadopoulos. Stripped of his powers and sent to Earth by Zeus, Apollo must restore five ancient Oracles that have gone dark, a task necessitated by the rise of a powerful triumvirate of ancient Roman emperors seeking to control the world. Following the events at Camp Half-Blood, Apollo and his demigod master, Meg McCaffrey, venture to Indianapolis, Indiana. Their immediate objective is to locate and liberate the second of these Oracles, which is rumored to be held within a mystical sanctuary known as the Waystation. This Waystation serves as a haven for demigods, minor gods, and mythological creatures, offering a unique setting where Apollo encounters a diverse cast, including the heroic demigod Leo Valdez and his sorceress girlfriend Calypso, both returning characters from Riordan’s previous series. The Waystation is lovingly managed by Emmie (the former Hemithea) and her wife Josephine, providing a stable, if temporary, base amidst the chaos. The primary antagonist of this particular quest is the dangerously narcissistic Roman emperor Commodus, one of the three leaders of the sinister Triumvirate Holdings. Commodus has established his base within a section of the Labyrinth, where he controls the Oracle and poses a significant threat to Apollo and his allies. Apollo, still grappling with his human weaknesses and vulnerabilities, must learn to trust others and develop empathy to overcome Commodus’s forces and decipher the ominous "dark prophecy" that gives the book its title. The narrative explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and the true meaning of heroism as Apollo confronts his past divine arrogance while navigating perilous trials and forming unexpected alliances.
