Саммари «Tangerine»

"Tangerine" by Edward Bloor is a compelling young adult novel that intricately weaves themes of identity, family dynamics, and the pursuit of truth through the lens of its protagonist, Paul Fisher. Set in the fictional town of Tangerine, Florida, the story unfolds in a landscape characterized by both natural beauty and a backdrop of socioeconomic disparity. The narrative is told from Paul’s perspective, a keen observer grappling with his poor eyesight and the emotional scars from his past. As Paul navigates his first year at a new school, he confronts challenges that reflect both his personal struggles and broader social issues. The novel uses a unique framework where Paul’s love for soccer serves as a catalyst for personal growth and self-acceptance. Through his experiences on the soccer field, he gains confidence and begins to uncover the truth about his family, particularly concerning his older brother, Erik, whose aggressive behavior looms large over Paul’s life. Bloor’s use of vivid chapter titles—such as "The First Day" and "The Camp"—not only structures the narrative but also emphasizes the thematic elements of discovery and resilience. The setting of Tangerine itself, with its contrasting elements of community and conflict, enhances Paul’s journey of self-discovery and challenges him to confront uncomfortable realities. With a focus on environmental issues, social inequality, and personal integrity, "Tangerine" is a rich exploration of adolescence, resilience, and finding one’s voice amidst the chaos of family and societal expectations. Throughout the novel, readers witness Paul's transformation as he begins to reclaim his narrative and assert his place in the world.
