《Squire (Protector of the Small #3)》摘要

"Squire (Protector of the Small #3)" by Tamora Pierce continues the adventurous journey of Keladry of Mindelan, who is now a squire training under Sir Raoul of Goldenlake. Set in the fantasy realm of Tortall, this installment delves deeper into themes of gender, honor, and personal growth as Kel navigates the complexities of her role, aspiring to become a knight in a society that often challenges her position as a female warrior. The narrative explores the demanding training routines and responsibilities that come with being a squire, showcasing Kel's resilience and determination to prove herself worthy of knighthood. Alongside her fellow squires, including the popular but often arrogant Neal and the steadfast Dykstra, she faces outside threats, such as skirmishes with hostile forces and the challenges posed by rival knights. The story emphasizes the significance of camaraderie and mentorship as Kel learns valuable lessons not only about swordsmanship and tactics but also about leadership, compassion, and justice. Distinctive chapter ideas in "Squire" reflect Kel's evolving relationships and internal conflicts, reinforcing the novel’s exploration of themes like loyalty and self-identity. Kel’s experiences with her animal companion, a young wild cat named Jump, serve as both a literal and metaphorical reflection of her journey towards becoming a knight. As she faces trials and navigates her feelings towards her peers and mentors, she also grapples with the expectations laden upon her by tradition and society. Ultimately, "Squire" is a rich continuation of the "Protector of the Small" series, illustrating Kel's unwavering commitment to her values in a world where being female adds layers of complexity to her dream of knighthood.
