《So you want to be a wizard》摘要

"So You Want to Be a Wizard" by Diane Duane introduces readers to the immersive world of wizardry through the eyes of its protagonists, Nita Callahan and Kit Rodriguez. Set against the backdrop of contemporary New York City, the novel crafts a unique blend of urban settings and magical elements, creating a world where ordinary life and extraordinary adventures coexist. The story begins when Nita discovers a book that offers her a chance to learn the ways of wizardry, sparking her journey into a realm filled with spells, interdimensional travel, and ancient cosmic principles. Central to Nita and Kit's exploration of magic are the concepts of probability and the idea that true wizardry involves understanding and working with the structure of reality. The duo embarks on various experiments, seeking to harness their newfound abilities while navigating the risks inherent in magic. Duane's inventive magic system is grounded in the belief that wizards are not merely spell-casters; they are essentially guardians of the Way, meant to maintain the balance of the universe. The narrative unfolds with fast-paced action, interwoven with philosophical insights about the responsibility that comes with power and knowledge. As Nita and Kit face challenges, including confrontations with dark forces and the complexities of their young lives, they illustrate the themes of friendship, growth, and the quest for identity. The story's structure encompasses distinct chapters that highlight pivotal moments in their journey, revealing the intricacies of choosing between right and wrong in the world of magic. Through their adventure, Duane invites readers to reflect on the essence of heroism and the choices that shape one's destiny.
