『Shadow and Bone』要約

"Shadow and Bone" is the first book in Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse series, which blends elements of fantasy and adventure within a richly developed world inspired by Tsarist Russia. The story follows Alina Starkov, a young orphan and cartographer in the First Army of the Ravkan military. The narrative begins as Alina and her regiment cross the treacherous Fold, a dark and monster-infested expanse that separates Ravka from the rest of the world. Here, Alina discovers her latent magical powers when she instinctively harnesses light to protect her best friend, Mal, from an attack. The novel intricately weaves themes of identity, power, and oppression through Alina's journey as she is summoned to train under the shadowy and enigmatic Darkling, a powerful Grisha, or magic user. As she struggles to understand her newfound abilities, Alina is thrust into a world of political intrigue and manipulation. The Grisha possess various magical powers, based on their unique affinities, creating a dynamic hierarchy that Alina must navigate. The novel is structured around Alina’s transformation from a seemingly ordinary girl into a pivotal force in her world, grappling with her self-perception and the responsibilities that come with her identity as a Summoner. Alongside Alina, the narrative explores the loyalty and complexities of relationships, particularly her bond with Mal and the Darkling’s seductive influence. The setting of Ravka, with its vibrant yet dangerous landscapes, serves as both a backdrop and a character in itself, further enhancing the epic quality of Alina's quest as she seeks to unite her war-torn country against the darkness threatening to consume it.
