ملخص Sapiens

Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens reimagines the story of our species as a sweeping inquiry into how an unremarkable ape came to dominate the planet. The book opens roughly seventy thousand years ago, when Homo sapiens began displaying a peculiar talent for imagining things that do not exist: gods, nations, money, corporations, and laws. Harari argues that this capacity for shared fictions, not raw intelligence or strength, allowed loosely connected bands of hunter-gatherers to cooperate in ever-larger groups, eventually building cities, empires, and global networks. From there, he traces three great revolutions—cognitive, agricultural, and scientific—while asking uncomfortable questions about whether each one actually made human life better. The agricultural revolution, he suggests, may have been history's biggest fraud, enriching elites while saddling ordinary people with harder work and poorer diets. Later chapters examine the invention of writing, the rise of imagined hierarchies, the spread of money and religion, and the modern marriage of capitalism, empire, and science. Throughout, Harari writes with unusual clarity and wit, moving briskly across archaeology, biology, economics, and philosophy. The book is aimed at curious general readers rather than specialists, and it works equally well for students encountering big history for the first time and for anyone who enjoys having familiar assumptions gently dismantled. Its popularity stems from that combination of accessibility and provocation: Harari offers a grand narrative that feels both authoritative and unsettling, encouraging readers to see their own beliefs, institutions, and daily routines as contingent products of stories humans invented. Whether or not one accepts every claim, the book's central question lingers long after the final page.
