Alice Oseman's novella *Nick and Charlie* offers a poignant prose exploration of the beloved characters from her *Heartstopper* graphic novel series, focusing on their relationship as a new chapter of life approaches. Set primarily during their final year of secondary school, the book delves into the anxieties and uncertainties faced by protagonists Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring as Nick prepares to leave for university. Oseman thoughtfully explores the practical and emotional facets of this impending change. Readers witness their attempts to plan for the future, from discussing visitation schedules to articulating their fears about potential loneliness and the unknown. *Nick and Charlie* serves as an extended meditation on the endurance of first love when confronted with significant life milestones, examining the delicate balance between holding onto a cherished past and embracing an uncertain future.
