『Nevernight』要約

"Nevernight" by Jay Kristoff is a dark fantasy novel set in a world where the sun only shines for three days every two years, creating a perpetual night. The narrative follows Mia Corvere, a young woman driven by the desire for revenge after her father is executed and her family destroyed by a corrupt ruling class. As the daughter of an infamous assassin, Mia seeks to harness her inherited skills and enrolls in the Red Church, an institution that trains assassins to become lethal weapons in a society rife with political intrigue and betrayal. The story is characterized by its unique storytelling approach, with chapters that are interspersed with footnotes offering additional insights, lore, and context to the world and events unfolding. This distinctive framework enhances the reader's immersion in the dark and brutal atmosphere of the book, as well as its richly developed setting known as the Republic of Itreya. Mia’s journey is marked by her encounters with various characters, including her companions, the enigmatic gods, and other members of the Red Church. Each chapter often focuses on her training and grapples with themes of vengeance, identity, and the moral complexities of her path. Kristoff deftly combines elements of fantasy with sharp, witty prose and vivid world-building, creating a gripping narrative filled with unpredictability. "Nevernight" challenges the conventions of the fantasy genre by delivering a compelling story that confronts themes of power, loyalty, and the price of vengeance. The first book in the "Nevernight Chronicle" sets the stage for an epic saga, inviting readers to explore a world as beautiful as it is deadly.
