『My Life』要約

My Life is Bill Clinton’s 2004 autobiography, a sprawling memoir that traces his journey from a modest childhood in Hope, Arkansas, to the White House. Clinton structures the book in chronological chapters, opening with his family history and the defining early loss of his father before he was born, then moving through his stepfather’s alcoholism, his youth in Hot Springs, his education at Georgetown, Oxford, and Yale Law School, and his early political campaigns in Arkansas. A central thread is his relationship with Hillary Rodham, from their meeting at Yale to their marriage and partnership in public life. The middle sections cover his terms as Arkansas governor, his 1992 presidential campaign, and his two administrations. Clinton details major policy efforts such as the North American Free Trade Agreement, welfare reform, the Balanced Budget Act, and the failed health care initiative, while also addressing the scandals and investigations that shadowed his presidency, including Whitewater, the Monica Lewinsky affair, and his impeachment. He writes openly about the personal and political costs of those episodes. The final chapters reflect on his post-presidential life, the founding of the Clinton Foundation, and his global work on HIV/AIDS, climate change, and economic development. Throughout, the memoir blends policy detail, Arkansas and national political history, and intimate family narrative, offering Clinton’s own account of his motivations, mistakes, and legacy.
