Саммари «Logic, the theory of inquiry»

In "Logic, the Theory of Inquiry," John Dewey presents a comprehensive exploration of logic as it relates to human inquiry, emphasizing its practical application rather than its traditional formalistic approach. Dewey critiques conventional notions of logic, arguing that it is not merely a set of abstract principles but rather a dynamic process deeply intertwined with human experience and problem-solving. The book spans various themes, primarily advocating for a naturalistic perspective on logic, where inquiry is seen as an adaptive process shaped by the challenges and contexts individuals encounter. Dewey outlines a distinctive framework that contrasts deductive and inductive reasoning, proposing that true logical thinking emerges through the experimental method. He emphasizes the importance of observation, experimentation, and the interplay of thought and action in refining ideas and eliciting knowledge. Central to his argument is the concept of "abduction," a form of reasoning that allows for the generation of hypotheses based on incomplete data, thus fitting within a broader theory of reasoning that responds to real-world situations. Throughout the book, Dewey discusses how inquiry is essentially a social activity, inherently collaborative and influenced by the surrounding environment. He challenges readers to consider the implications of logical processes in educational settings and public discourse, advocating for a democratic approach to inquiry that fosters critical thinking and communal reasoning. Dewey's work aims to bridge the gap between theoretical logic and its practical application, underscoring the transformative potential of a reflective, inquiry-based approach to understanding and engaging with the world. By reconstructing logic in this manner, Dewey invites a re-evaluation of the role of inquiry in personal and societal development.
