《Lasher》摘要

"Lasher" by Anne Rice is the second novel in her "Lives of the Mayfair Witches" series, following the story introduced in "Book of Shadows." Set primarily in modern-day New Orleans, the narrative explores themes of witchcraft, family legacy, and the supernatural, focusing on the Mayfair family—a dynasty of powerful witches. The protagonist, Rowan Mayfair, a brilliant and complex neurosurgeon with a strong connection to her ancestral roots, finds herself at the center of a profound struggle involving dark magic and an enigmatic spirit named Lasher. Lasher is both a character and a force, initially presented as a ghostly entity linked to the Mayfair witches. He becomes increasingly influential as Rowan grapples with her own witchcraft abilities and the unsettling truths about her family's history. Throughout the novel, Rice delves into the dynamics of family ties and the impact of inherited power, blending elements of gothic horror with psychological depth. The tension between good and evil is palpable as Rowan confronts the dark legacy imposed by her ancestors and her own burgeoning powers. Rice employs lush prose and intricate character development, inviting readers into a richly detailed world that intersects the mundane with the mystical. Themes of desire, sacrifice, and the quest for freedom resonate as Rowan seeks to navigate her identity. "Lasher" deepens the exploration of the Mayfair family saga, revealing the profound connections between past and present while raising questions about autonomy and the consequences of embracing one's true nature. This novel continues Rice's exploration of the supernatural with her trademark blend of suspense, romance, and philosophical inquiry, making it a pivotal entry in the series.
