The narrative unfolds through distinctive frameworks, employing a blend of prose styles and perspectives. It uses shifting viewpoints from key characters, including Lanny's concerned mother, his teacher, and an eerie presence known as "Kranky," who embodies local folklore and the darker aspects of rural myth.
