《Kushiel's dart》摘要

"Kushiel's Dart," the first novel in Jacqueline Carey's acclaimed "Kushiel's Legacy" series, immerses readers in a richly woven fantasy world inspired by a reimagined medieval Europe. The storyline unfolds in the land of Terre d'Ange, a place dedicated to the worship of the goddess Elua, where love and pleasure are celebrated as sacred arts. The narrative centers on Phedre no Delaunay, a captivating protagonist born with a unique flaw: a red mark in the shape of a dart on her back, denoting her a "Servant of Naamah," the goddess of love and desire. The story skillfully dialogues with themes of identity, duty, and the complexities of pleasure and pain, as Phedre navigates her position as a courtesan trained in the art of seduction and intrigue. Over the course of her journey, she becomes embroiled in political machinations, facing challenges from both within and outside her culture. Phedre's experiences reflect a broad spectrum of human emotions and moral dilemmas, particularly in a society where consent and service are paramount. The book's chapters delve into various aspects of Phedre's life, including her training at the House of the Night-Blooming Flowers and her subsequent adventures as she is swept into the turbulent affairs of kings and nobles. Carey's world-building is notable for its intricate social hierarchies, political intrigue, and detailed histories that frame Phedre's story. "Kushiel's Dart" is not merely a tale of fantasy escapism but an exploration of the nature of love, loyalty, and the lengths to which one will go for the greater good.
