《Ilium》摘要

"Ilium," a novel by Dan Simmons, intricately weaves together distinct frameworks of science fiction and classical literature. The narrative is divided into two primary storylines: one follows the futuristic world of scholars on an advanced Earth, while the other traverses a mythological realm based on Homer's "Iliad." The scholars, equipped with human-like intelligence and advanced technology, engage in the study of ancient Greek literature, experiencing surreal and bizarre events that blur the lines between observation and participation in the epic battles of Troy. Set in the distant future, the Earth of "Ilium" is governed by advanced artificial intelligences known as "Post-Human" entities who oversee the scholars’ operations. Among the notable protagonists is the brilliant yet peculiar scholar, Henry Miller, who navigates the complexities of his existence while unraveling the themes of love, honor, and fate within the echo of ancient conflicts. Meanwhile, the narrative transpires in the shadow of the Trojan War, wherein characters drawn from mythology, such as Achilles and Helen, exist in a vivid retelling shaped by their divine influences, leading to discussions about the nature of heroism and the consequences of war. Simmons interlaces literary and philosophical themes through the characters’ journeys, exploring the relationship between the past and present as well as the nature of human experience in the face of technological advancements. With its unique blend of myth and futurism, "Ilium" challenges conventional storytelling, offering commentary on the nature of consciousness, the quest for knowledge, and the echoes of history that continue to resonate in the modern world.
