《I Kissed Shara Wheeler》摘要

"I Kissed Shara Wheeler" by Casey McQuiston is a contemporary young adult novel that intricately blends themes of identity, queerness, and the complexities of high school life in a small Southern town. The story centers around the life of Chloe Green, an ambitious student who has her sights set on valedictorian. Her world is upended when Shara Wheeler, the popular girl who is also the object of Chloe's infatuation, unexpectedly kisses her and then vanishes just before graduation. Set primarily at a conservative high school in Alabama, the novel showcases a vibrant tapestry of characters, including Shara’s enigmatic boyfriend, and a guiding figure in Chloe's developing self-awareness, a fellow outsider named Smith. The narrative unfolds through a treasure hunt, with Chloe and her unexpected allies forced to work together to solve the mystery of Shara’s disappearance. This quest not only brings forward their diverse friendships but also highlights issues of acceptance and personal truth, underscoring the dichotomy between public personas and private lives. Throughout the chapters, themes of passionate rivalry, unrequited love, and the search for belonging are woven through the unfolding narrative. Chloe grapples with her feelings for Shara while navigating her ambitions and coming to terms with her sexuality in an environment that can be both exhilarating and stifling. McQuiston uses sharp, witty dialogue and a blend of humor and poignancy to address the complexities of teenage life, making "I Kissed Shara Wheeler" a compelling exploration of love and self-discovery within the rigid confines of societal expectations.
