"I Broke My Trunk! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)" by Mo Willems is part of a beloved series that features the endearing friendship between two distinct characters: Gerald, the elephant, and Piggie, the exuberant pig. The book is structured around their engaging dialogue, showcasing Willems' signature use of simple language and expressive illustrations that capture the emotions of the characters vividly. Setting the stage in a lighthearted, cartoonish environment, the story unfolds through a playful exchange where Gerald, owning up to his situation, humorously shares the tale of how he broke his trunk. Throughout the narrative, Willems employs a bifocal framework that juxtaposes Gerald's cautious and thoughtful nature with Piggie's playful and carefree attitude.
