Resumen de Hard magic

"Hard Magic" is a novel by Larry Correia, marking the first installment in the "Grimnoir Chronicles" series. Set in a reimagined version of the roaring 1920s, the story unfolds in an alternate history where certain individuals possess supernatural abilities known as “Talent.” These magical powers range from telekinesis to elemental control, which shape the socio-political landscape of this world. The narrative begins against the backdrop of a post-World War I America grappling with the ramifications of these powers, including rising tensions between those with Talents and the general populace. The plot follows the journey of several protagonists, notably Jake Sullivan, a former soldier turned magical detective, who grapples with his past and his unique skills. Other key characters include the formidable assassin, the “vampire” Talented individual known as Faye, and a host of supportive secondary characters, each with their own unique abilities and backgrounds. Throughout the novel, Correia introduces the concept of “Hard Magic” versus “Soft Magic,” which distinguishes between strictly defined, rule-based abilities and those that are more abstract and unpredictable. As the narrative progresses, the protagonists are drawn into a conspiracy involving clandestine organizations, power struggles, and the looming threat of a secret war against those who would exploit Talents for their own nefarious purposes. The story is rich with action, intrigue, and the exploration of moral dilemmas faced by those who wield great power. With its unique blend of fantasy and historical elements, "Hard Magic" offers readers a thrilling introduction to a world where magic intertwines with the gritty realities of a bygone era, setting the stage for further adventures in the series.
