『Fairest of all』要約

"Fairest of All" by Serena Valentino is a reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale of Snow White, providing a unique perspective on the familiar story. This novel is part of Valentino’s “Villains” series, which delves into the backstories of iconic Disney villains, allowing readers to see the complexities and motivations behind their actions. The narrative primarily revolves around the Evil Queen, who is portrayed not merely as a one-dimensional antagonist but as a deeply troubled character with her own struggles and insecurities. Set within a world that merges dark magic with the fairy tale’s lush, enchanting landscape, the story takes place in the Queen's opulent castle and the nearby forest, evoking a sense of both beauty and menace. Valentino explores themes of jealousy, beauty, and the quest for power, providing insight into how the Queen’s obsession with being the "fairest of them all" shapes her decisions and relationships, especially her tumultuous connection with her stepdaughter, Snow White. Throughout the novel, Valentino employs a framework focused on the psychological complexities of the Evil Queen, emphasizing her feelings of loneliness, loss, and inadequacy, which lead her down a dark path. The story is structured into chapters that unveil the Queen’s past, detailing her upbringing, her relationship with her father, and the events that catalyze her transformation into a villain. The protagonist is not just the Queen but also the forces of envy and despair that drive her actions, inviting readers to empathize with her plight while also questioning her choices. "Fairest of All" ultimately reexamines the nature of villainy and the thin line between good and evil in a world where beauty and power hold sway.
