《Down among the sticks and bones》摘要

"Down Among the Sticks and Bones" by Seanan McGuire is the second book in the Wayward Children series, which explores the lives of children who discover magical doorways to alternate worlds. This novel centers on twins Jack and Jill, who navigate their complicated identities and relationship after being introduced to an eerie world known as the Moors. The setting is darkly whimsical, blending gothic elements with fantasy, and it serves as a backdrop for the exploration of themes such as choice, destiny, and the consequences of parental influence. The narrative is divided into chapters that alternate between the twins’ early lives and their experiences in the Moors, illustrating the stark contrast between their mundane reality and the fantastical dangers they face. Jack is drawn to the role of a protector, embracing her identity as a vampire, while Jill thrives in the role of a collaboration-driven witch thriving on social bonds, leading to a journey marked by personal discovery and the complexities of their bond. In their new world, the twins must confront various monsters—both literal and metaphorical—that challenge their perceptions of strength and agency. As the story unfolds, McGuire delves into the implications of their choices and the impact of their upbringing, revealing how they attempt to reconcile their dualities. “Down Among the Sticks and Bones” not only captivates readers with its rich world-building and engaging characters but also provokes thoughtful reflections on identity and the consequences of the paths we choose in life.
