《Database system concepts》摘要

"Database System Concepts," authored by Abraham Silberschatz, Henry Korth, and S. Sudarshan, is a foundational textbook that explores the principles and techniques underlying database management systems. This comprehensive work delves into various topics, including the architecture of database systems, data modeling, transaction management, and database security. The book is organized into distinct sections that guide readers through both the theoretical and practical aspects of database systems, ensuring a robust understanding of the subject. Key frameworks introduced in the book include the Entity-Relationship (ER) model for data modeling, which offers a graphical approach to understanding database structures. The authors also highlight relational database theory, particularly the concepts of normalization and functional dependencies, which are critical for designing efficient databases. Another significant aspect of "Database System Concepts" is its examination of advanced topics such as distributed databases and data warehousing, reflecting the evolving landscape of database technology. The inclusion of case studies and real-world examples enhances comprehension, allowing readers to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios. The text further discusses the importance of database concurrency control and recovery in maintaining data integrity, particularly in multi-user environments. Each chapter presents a blend of fundamental principles with the latest developments in the field, making it relevant for both beginners and seasoned professionals. Through experiments and exercises, the book encourages an active learning approach, helping students to solidify their understanding of complex concepts. Ultimately, "Database System Concepts" serves as an essential resource for those seeking to master the fundamentals and intricacies of database systems in a technology-driven society.
