Resumen de Cujo

"Cujo" by Stephen King is a chilling novel that delves into the intersection of fear and vulnerability in an ordinary suburban setting. Set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, the story revolves around a massive, rabid Saint Bernard named Cujo, who transforms from a friendly pet into a terrifying threat. The novel's narrative unfolds through multiple perspectives, mainly focusing on the lives of two families: Vic and Wendy Trenton, and the struggling single mother, Donna Trenton, along with her young son, Tad. The storyline builds tension through its exploration of themes such as the fragility of happiness, the impact of personal choices, and the unforeseen consequences of life’s unpredictability. The characters face their own struggles, with Vic grappling with marital troubles and feeling increasingly disconnected from his family, while Donna is dealing with her own emotional turmoil as she tries to protect her son amidst a crumbling life. The tension escalates dramatically when Donna and Tad find themselves trapped in their car, confronted by the now-violent Cujo. The setting plays a crucial role in heightening the sense of claustrophobia; the searing summer heat becomes a relentless adversary, leaving the characters physically and emotionally drained. King's discourse on fear permeates the narrative; Cujo becomes a manifestation of not just physical danger but also the fears of parenthood and the inability to shield loved ones from the unpredictable nature of life. "Cujo" serves as an examination of primal instincts, survival, and the inherent darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of suburban tranquility.
