《Come Tumbling Down》摘要

“Come Tumbling Down” is the fifth installment in Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series, seamlessly continuing the exploration of parallel worlds that began in previous books. The novel reintroduces Eleanor West, a veteran of the fantastical doors that lead to different realms, and focuses on the consequences of the choices made by the children who discover these worlds. The setting swings between Eleanor's home, the titular Home for Wayward Children, and the various intriguing worlds connected through these mysterious doors, where the physical laws often differ greatly from our own. In “Come Tumbling Down,” the story primarily follows the character of Jack, who returns from her current world, the Moors, with a desperate plea that draws her sister, Jill, back into the fold. The novel dives into themes of family, identity, and the concept of belonging, as it explores Jack’s struggle with her sense of self and the displacement that often comes from these otherworldly experiences. Throughout the narrative, readers witness the distress and urgency that come from Jack's complex relationship with her sister, contrasting the push and pull of loyalty and independence. The story weaves in the framework of self-exploration found in a unique combination of fantasy elements and emotional depth, offering insights into the ramifications of wanting to be somewhere one isn't meant to be. McGuire's vivid prose and imaginative world-building make it a rich tale that expands on the ideas of choice, transformation, and the struggles that come with being a part of both ordinary and extraordinary lives. As Jack and Jill navigate their intertwined destinies, “Come Tumbling Down” poignantly illustrates the often tumultuous journey of finding one’s place in the universe.
