《Cibola burn》摘要

"Cibola Burn" is the fourth novel in the Expanse series by James S. A. Corey. The story takes place in a future where humanity has colonized the solar system and now faces new challenges with the discovery of a series of alien portals leading to distant worlds. The novel is set primarily on Ilus, a newly discovered planet that has become a focal point for corporate interests and settlers seeking new opportunities, pitting them against the indigenous alien presence and the mysterious dangers of the environment. The protagonists include James Holden, captain of the Rocinante, and Naomi Nagata, his skilled engineer, who are drawn into the conflict on Ilus as they try to mediate tensions between the settlers and the corporations that initially financed the exploration. The novel explores themes of colonization, resource management, and the consequences of human ambition. Through the various perspectives of the characters, it delves into the moral dilemmas faced when exploiting new worlds, examining the clash between corporate greed and the need for responsible stewardship of alien environments. "Cibola Burn" introduces unique frameworks like the concept of terraforming and the ethical challenges of human expansion, alongside the implications of the alien technology left behind by an ancient civilization. The novel features a complex interplay between politics, science, and survival, as characters grapple with the potential for both discovery and destruction. This mix of hard science fiction and character-driven narrative continues to develop the intricate universe established in earlier books, further enriching the readers' understanding of humanity's place in the cosmos.
