《Carry On》摘要

"Carry On" by Rainbow Rowell is a contemporary fantasy novel that serves as both a homage to and a subversion of the traditional tropes found in the Harry Potter series. The story is set in a world where magic exists, centering around the fictional Watford School of Magicks in England. It follows Simon Snow, a seemingly chosen one and the most powerful magicians of his generation, who is struggling with his abilities and the weight of expectations. The narrative is presented through a multi-perspective framework, incorporating Simon's point of view alongside those of his roommate and love interest, Baz, and their friend Penny. Each character grapples with their own personal challenges: Simon faces the uncertainty of his magical prowess, Penny wrestles with her identity as a witch from a non-magical family, and Baz conceals his vampire heritage and feelings towards Simon. This layered character development enriches the story as it explores themes of love, friendship, and identity, while also addressing issues like loneliness and the pressure to conform to expectations. Rowell expertly crafts her world-building through the use of humor and heart-stirring moments, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the complexities of magical society. The plot unfolds with Simon and his friends navigating their final year at Watford while confronting the looming threat of a dark force that challenges everything they hold dear. Through Simon's journey, "Carry On" examines the struggles of growing up and the importance of embracing one's true self, offering a fresh perspective on the fantasy genre.
