《Call Me by Your Name》摘要

"Call Me by Your Name" by André Aciman is a poignant coming-of-age novel set in the sweltering summer of 1983 in Northern Italy. The story centers around Elio Perlman, a precocious seventeen-year-old, who spends his summer with his family at their villa. When Oliver, a charming and confident twenty-something graduate student from America, arrives to work as a research assistant for Elio's father, the dynamics of their lives shift dramatically. The novel’s structure is notably reflective, unfolding through Elio’s introspective lens as he grapples with his burgeoning feelings for Oliver, exploring themes of desire, identity, and the bittersweet nature of love. Aciman expertly captures the intoxicating blend of youth and longing, employing rich, sensory imagery to evoke the beauty of the Italian landscape and the intensity of first love. The narrative is interspersed with contemplative passages that delve into Elio’s thoughts and emotions, serving as a framework that allows readers to experience the intensity of his infatuation. As the summer progresses, their relationship evolves, marked by moments of tension and tentative connection, revealing the complexities of intimacy and self-discovery. The novel’s title itself symbolizes the yearning for deeper connection; the call to acknowledge one’s identity is a recurring motif throughout Elio’s journey. Through vivid prose, Aciman invites readers to reflect on the ephemeral nature of passion and the lasting impact of formative experiences. Ultimately, "Call Me by Your Name" is a powerful exploration of love’s transformative power, making it not just a story of a romantic relationship but a meditation on the essence of human connection.
