《Always and Forever》摘要

"Always and Forever" by Betty Neels is a charming romantic novel set in the picturesque landscapes of the Netherlands and England, exemplifying Neels' signature blend of gentle storytelling and heartfelt emotion. The narrative revolves around the protagonist, Miss Evelyn Aylward, a dedicated and nurturing nurse in a London hospital. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she enters the orbit of the compelling yet enigmatic Dutch doctor, Anton de Vries. The novel intricately explores themes of love, self-discovery, and societal expectations, all framed within the conventions of the romantic genre typical of Neels. As the story unfolds, Evelyn's genuine kindness and dedication to her patients serve as a backdrop against which her budding relationship with Anton evolves. The chapters skillfully develop her character, portraying her struggles with self-worth and her longing for a deeper connection. The setting oscillates between the bustling environment of the hospital and the serene countryside, highlighting the contrast between Evelyn’s demanding professional life and her quest for personal happiness. Neels employs her characteristic narrative style, rich in descriptive prose, to create a vivid picture of both settings and emotions. The reader witnesses Evelyn navigating familial responsibilities and her interactions with Anton's family, which adds layers to her character and explores the complexities of love across different social spheres. "Always and Forever" is not simply a love story but also a reflection on sacrifice, commitment, and the enduring human spirit, as both protagonists grapple with their feelings while remaining true to their duties. Neels' trademark wit and warmth shine through, making this book a delightful addition to her oeuvre.
